Positive Sentiments Help Rupiah Gain More
Reza Priyambada, head researcher of Bina Artha Securities, expected the Rupiah to continue to strengthen against the US Dollar early this week. Reza predicted that the Rupiah will move to around a support level of IDR 13,320 and resistance level of IDR 13,308. We expect the gain to be maintained and continued. But we should also be wary of and anticipate various sentiments that could affect the Rupiahs movements, Reza said in a written statement on Monday, March 13, 2017. At the end of last week, the Rupiah managed to close in the green despite the strengthening US Dollar. Data from Yahoo Finance on Friday, March 10, 2017, showed that Rupiah maged to record a 15-points gain before closing at a level of IDR 13,378. The Rupiah gain was largely affected by positive domestic sentiments, including the statement issued by the Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs that economic growth in the first quarter of 2017 might reach five percent, higher compared to the same period in 2016, where economic growth was recorded at a level of 4.92 percent. In addition, Bank Indonesia (BI) stated that banking credits interest rate may be lowered to stimulate growth if inflation rate could be maintained at around three to four percent. The rupiah seemed to take advantage of the existing momentum to book gain with the support of various sentiments, Reza said. Source : Tempo.co March 18, 2017
