Bank Indonesia (BI) reported a number of issues circulating on social media about the new rupiah banknotes to police on Wednesday, December 28, 2016.

BI has officially reported the statements about new rupiah banknotes circulating on social media to the police today, said Arbonas Hutabarat, BI Communication Directorate, Wednesday, December 28, 2016.

The report was made, Arbonas explained, due to the fake news or hoax circulating on social media that has damaged the central banks reputation.

The false news, among other, is that the new rupiah banknote was issued by a private institution. Arbonas said it was a hoax. Based on the laws, banknotes printing must be done by state-owned money printing company Perum Peruri.

The statement said as if the BI did not respect the Laws no. 17 on Banknotes Printing. Therefore, we consider the issue has damaged our reputation, he said.

Previously, some negative issues about new rupiah banknotes circulating on social media, such as the design of new rupiah banknotes is similar to yuan and the printing was done by a private company. It was said that the new money was printed by PT Pura Barutama located in Kudus and not Peruri.

Through this report, we assert that the news on Facebook is wrong. The 2016 Year Emission rupiah printing was done by Perum Peruri, Arbonas added.
